What is the State House of Representatives?

The Colorado House of Representatives is the lower house of the Colorado General Assembly and is composed of 65 elected members. Representatives are elected to two-year terms, and are limited to four terms (8-years) in office but may run again after a four-year break. There are no term limits for the number of times a representative may serve in a lifetime.

The Speaker of the House presides over the House of Representatives. The Speaker is elected by the majority party caucus followed by confirmation of the full House through the passage of a House Resolution. In addition to presiding over the body, the Speaker also controls scheduling legislation on the floor of the House.

What’s the Difference Between a State Representative and a U.S. Representative?

The main difference between a state representative and a U.S. House representative is that state representatives are elected by the people living in the house district, while U.S. House representatives are elected by the people living in the congressional district. State representatives also have more power than U.S. House representatives when it comes to passing laws directly affecting the State of Colorado. This is because state representatives can introduce bills in their state legislature, while U.S. House representatives can only introduce bills in the U.S. House of Representatives. Finally, state representatives typically serve shorter terms than U.S. House representatives. This is because most states have terms limits for their state legislators, while U.S. House members have no term limits.

The U.S. House of Representatives is made up of 435 members, each representing a congressional district. Whereas the Colorado State House is made up of 65 members, each representing a state district. The Speaker of the House presides over the House of Representatives.
