Kurt’s Plan: First 120-Day Legislative Session

I have lived in Highlands Ranch since 1996 and I've watched and helped build this community for the last 26 years. We have built a special community that embraces families and small businesses. But the Democrats are trying to flip our community blue, and we need to band together to protect our conservative values and personal freedoms.

Here are some of the issues I plan to take head-on during my first 120-Day Legislative Session in office:

HELP THE ECONOMY CONTINUE TO FLOURISH IN HIGHLANDS RANCH

We are against increasing inflation, supply chain and inventory shortages, and rising gasoline and public utility costs. We need to provide an economic environment that allows residents, small businesses, and entrepreneurs to prosper. We also need to promote Highlands Ranch's economic development, availability of services, and employment opportunities. Finally, we need to encourage Highlands Ranch covid economic recovery, including restarting and preserving small businesses.

PROTECTING SCHOOLS OF CHOICE IN HIGHLANDS RANCH

We need to guarantee Douglas county's "schools of choice," including charter schools and other educational opportunities. I plan to support conservative school board members in restoring the parent's role and voice in public education. I also intend to ensure Highlands Ranch public safety and security, including public school safety and emergency preparedness.

PUBLIC SAFETY IN HIGHLANDS RANCH

We back the blue!

I support law enforcement to guarantee Highlands Ranch is a safe place to live, visit, shop, and work. We also need to address Highlands Ranch's homeless population and provide public health and human services. We need to implement better methods to resolve Highlands Ranch neighbor issues and address neighborhood crime. Finally, we need to resolve Highlands Ranch's horrible traffic congestion and actively work to prevent our increasing traffic collisions.

LOCAL GOVERNMENT:

It is essential to establish limits on future Highlands Ranch regulations, covenant restrictions, property taxes, and fees. We need to coordinate the services of various government bodies (Douglas County, DCSD, HRCA, HRMD, & CWSD). I am thrilled our County Commissioners are finalizing a new Douglas County Health Department, including the termination of the Tri-County Health Department. We also need to protect Douglas County election polling, mail-in ballots, ballot drop boxes, and guarantee election integrity.

INFRASTRUCTURE:

We need to increase Douglas County maintenance, including resurfacing streets, replacing sidewalks, and snow removal. We also need to improve community entry landscaping, fence replacement, sidewalks, and trail snow removal. In addition, we need renovation and increased maintenance of neighborhood parks, children's playgrounds, and dog parks. Finally, we need to ensure future Centennial Water and Sanitation District water supply and new sources.

COMMUNITY IMAGE:

I support the quality of life in Highlands Ranch as an ideal place to live, raise a family, and retire. We need to strengthen Highlands Ranch's sense of community, community image, and friendliness to our neighbors. We also need to protect Highlands Ranch's future property values compared to our existing and new surrounding communities.

COMMUNITY SERVICES:

It is time to initiate renovation of the Highlands Ranch Recreation Centers and expand community programs. We also need to complete the future Highlands Ranch Senior Center and increase active adult programs and services. Additionally, we need to improve Highlands Ranch home improvement submittals, guidelines, and fair enforcement of covenants. Finally, we should replace Highlands Ranch RTD buses with an alternative safe, affordable, accessible transportation system.

RECREATION AND OUTDOORS:

I support the preservation of Highlands Ranch Backcountry, open space, mansion, and other historic sites. I would also push to fully restart our summer outdoor recreation programs, including youth recreation and sports leagues.
